United Nations team on a mission to far North

Roseline Okoro, Deputy Representative of the UN High Commissioner for refugees in Cameroon made a visit to the far North to ascertain the prevailing conditions and improve coordination of activities and conditions of refugees, displaced persons and victims of Boko Haram.

The main objective was to ensure effective coordination of humanitarian activities of all the agencies of the UN in the region and detail on the specific framework of assistance to the victims of the war against Boko Haram.

For Roseline, "this high-level mission came to visit different humanitarian support of United Nations facilities to evaluate activities carried out at the camps to ensure efficient use of the limited resources available.

"In short, it is to maximize what we bring to the beneficiaries of our activities," she said. The officials went to the Minawao refugee camp, located a few kilometres from Mokolo in the Mayo-Tsanaga where they visited the different UN installations on Saturday and Sunday.

The missionaries stated the current activities and what remains to be done. The visit was extended to the Cameroonians displaced at the Hospital in Mokolo. At the site Rosaline asserted that, "we are here to evaluate on-site structures and interact with local authorities, to find out what is needed to further improve the living conditions of the victims of the war against Boko Haram".

Despite the efforts made, other keys issues that needed to be addressed were noted as water problem, food distribution issues, education and health.

The Deputy Representative of the UN High Commissioner for refugees in Cameroon arrived in the region of the far North last Saturday April 18. The team ended their visit on Monday April 20, with a courtesy visit to the Governor Midjiyawa Bakari.
