University Games: Bamenda to host 20th edition

The 19th edition of the University Games has ended at the campus of the University of Yaounde II, Soa.

The National Institute of Youth and Sports were crown overall champions with 19 medals in gold won during the ten day tournament.

The University Institute of the Gulf of Guinea came second with 12 medals in gold while the University of Yaounde I occupied the third position with 10 precious metals in gold.

The Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fames Ndongo while closing the University Games saluted the sportsmanship the reigned throughout the the competition.

He also congratulated the athletes for breaking old records and creating new ones, proof of the high quality of the games.

The major announcement at the closing ceremony was that Cameron's youngest state University, the University of Bamenda will host the next edition of the University Games.

The hosting Rector of the University of Yaounde II, Soa then handed over the Games flag to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda who now has the task of beginning, infrastructural and logistics preparations for the games.

The North West Region will be hosting the University Games for the first time.

It's therefore going to be a challenge not only for the University of Bamenda that will be hosting the 20th edition but the entire region that will be hosting thousands of visitors during the jamboree.
