University lecturers continue nation-wide indefinite strike

Lecturers in all state universities in Cameroon continue observing an indefinite strike action called by the National Union of Teachers of Higher Education, SYNES.

The resolve for another strike action barely days after they ended a seven-day industrial strike comes after a meeting in Douala last Friday attended by representatives from SYNES chapters across the country.

The meeting brought together officials from the University of Buea (UB) chapter of SYNES and those from the University of Douala concerted with their peers of the University of Bamenda, University of Dschang, University of Ngouandere and the University of Maroua.

The lecturers are demanding the payment of the third quarter of their Research Modernization Allowance that government had promised to pay 15 days ago.

The lecturers have said the current strike action will only end after every lecturer would have received the said allowance. They also urged government to make sure that the fourth quarter of the research allowance is paid before December 31.

James Arrey Abangma of SYNES-UB and Joseph Dika Manga of the University of Douala co-signed the document calling for the indefinite strike.
