Urban transporters trade unions call off today's strike action

Inhabitants of several cities in the country can now heave a sigh of relief following the lifting of a strike action which was supposed to kick-off today, November 10, 2014.

The strike action was lifted on Friday November 7, 2014 after negotiations between the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona and representatives of transporters’ syndicates at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Yaounde.

The meeting gave an opportunity for the representatives of transporters’ syndicates to present their grievances to the minister.

A press release issued by the Minister of Labour and Social Security on November 8, 2014 states that several preoccupations were raised during the meeting and several long and short term concrete solutions have been envisaged.

In the press release, Minister Gregoire Owona called on the transporters’ syndicates to pursue social dialogue in settling grievances.

He also thanked the different actors for the massive turnout which was proof of their respect for dialogue and peace. The press release also states that specific meetings relating to the grievances of road transporters’ syndicates will hold as from tomorrow November 11, 2014 in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport.

Minister Gregoire Owona also called on road transport syndicates to avoid any confrontation among themselves in order to find positive solutions for the good of the country and all the actors. Gregoire Owona, on behalf of the government, called on the different actors to carry out their activity in peace and serenity.
