In the district of Mokolo, 1,500 youth have come together to block the road used by terrorists.
In the village of Mokong, door of entry to Mokolo in the Mayo Tsanaga Department, not the most exposed to the atrocities of the Boko Haram, but administrative authorities revealed that; “We have the vigilance committees in 200 villages and neighborhoods of the area, in accordance with a directive from the Governor of the region," explains Théophile Beina Nguia, sous-prefet of the District of Mokolo.
The translation of this prefectural order is a large accession of populations to the fight against the terrorists. Leaders of the two townships, five chiefdoms of 2nd degree and the districts have provided men.
"They were recruited amongst the younger volunteers who are deemed more vigorous. Their morality is checked. They are 1500. Their mission is to filter all inputs and outputs of the villages and neighborhoods, said the sous-prefet.
These vigilance committees are on foot since the beginning of the month of June 2014, and already, they seem to be productive.
"They pose serious problems to the Boko Haram, who do not like obstacles. They were ordered to cut off main roads and trails to impede terrorists in their advance, but especially in their retreat", adds Théophile Beina.
Those we met, have no weapons. But vigilance committees have sharp machetes, bows and poisoned arrows.
