Cooperation between China and Cameroon is growing from strength to strength. The Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Xue Jinwei Friday July 13 handed over a consignment of gifts to the country's election governing body, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).

On hand to receive the gifts, comprised of flat screen office computers, laptops and printers, was the Director General of Elections, Mohaman Sani Tanimou, ELECAM Board Chairman, Samuel Fonkam Azu'u and other ELECAM Board Members. "We are very happy to receive these gifts. We are about to start the recompilation of the voters' register by September. This activity will need a lot of computers and this gesture is therefore timely. We hope our personnel on the field will use the machines as it is required of them," said Mohaman Sani Tanimou. Fonkam Azu'u, on his part, expressed the same feeling of gratitude to the Chinese Ambassador, saying it will go a long way to assist ELECAM on the registration process. The machines, he added, have come to complement what ELECAM has put in place for this upcoming exercise.

The Chinese diplomat, Xue Jinwei described the gesture as a token that has come to consolidate already existing ties between Beijing and Yaounde. He said it was China's way of assisting ELECAM in the election process especially at a time that the country was bracing up to begin with the organisation of municipal and council elections. The ambassador expressed the wish for exchange of experiences between the two countries in the organisation of elections as part of ways to enhance Cameroon's electoral process. Before symbolically handing over the equipment, the Chinese Ambassador, Xue Jinwei and Elections Director General, Mohaman Sani Tanimou signed an agreement, sealing the handing over of the gifts.
