We dream of a transformed PCC - new Moderator

Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, newly inducted Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) has said his dream is for a transformed church, one where there is mutual trust, confidence and integrity inspired from the top.

“We dream of a transformed Church that will incarnate God’s love and care over the poor, the needy, the incapacitated and those otherwise ostracized, including those infected and affected with the deadly pandemic HIV/AIDS and other conditions that have dehumanized humanity,” the moderator said.

He was speaking at the esplanade of the Presbyterian Comprehensive Secondary School (PCSS) Buea on Sunday, March 15, during his induction into the office of Moderator and the induction of Rev. Babila Fochang into the office of Synod Clerk of the PCC.

Drawing inspiration from the Holy Scriptures in Romans 12:2, Rev. Fonki ministered on the theme: “Be Transformed Transformer.”

Elucidating on the subject, the Moderator said there is need for Christians to be transformed transformers because “the pagan world is beginning to rejoice because we are no different than them in matters of morality.”

He said if the church is not undergoing persecution, it may be because there is very little distinction between the world and the church. He cited religious surveys that consistently point to the fact that there are no noticeable differences between the lifestyles of those who attend church and those who do not.

He regretted that animals have become more civilized in matters of sexuality than the human race.

“I refuse to believe that this church must be run on the wheels of negative ethnicity where one’s ethnic extraction is the touchstone of ability… It is not about where we come from, but about where Christ will meet us as we serve him in his church,” Rev. Fonki said.

He went on to add that: “As a church, we must be able to rise above divisions and acrimony and do what is best for our church and not wonder into partisan interests of certain individuals or sections of our society. This church is bigger than individuals and communities… I refuse to believe that this church must swing on the hinges of blackmail, gossip, backstabbing; instead, we must be transformed transformers and use our quality time for quality productivity.’

The induction ceremony of the top servants of the PCC was attended by over 450 clergy of the church, government officials, friendly denominations to the Church, the Imam of Buea, among others. Both men were elected late last year and took up functions last January 6.

Rt. Rev. Fonki

The Rev. Fonki was born on November 23, 1965 in his native village of Bombe in Akwaya, Manyu Division. His educational career started at St. Paul Primary School Bombe, culminating with a Masters Degree in Applied Theology at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He has served the church in different capacities ranging from Parish Pastor to Presbytery Secretary in different presbyteries and also as Direct Partnership Secretary of the PCC.

He is married to Rev. Dr. Perpetua Fonki, a lecturer at the Cameroon Christian University – Kumba Campus and they are blessed with a son, Fonki Samuel Forba Junior.

Rev. Babila Fochang

Rev. Babila Fochang hails from Bali Nyonga. He has served the church in several capacities including as Parish Pastor, Chaplain, Presbytery Treasurer, Presbytery Secretary, and Lecturer at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary Kumba where he also served as Liberian, Director of Academic Affairs and Registrar.

He is married to Rebecca Kakubad. They are blessed with a son, Fambuh Emmanuel.
