A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of transport and a Moroccan consortium on Thursday in Yaoundé, for the implementation of this advanced infrastructure.
The ceremony held on Thursday between the Ministry of transportation (Mint) and the Moroccan consortium Finatech-Aviacom was short yet fruitful. No speeches were delivered during the meeting. With regard to the urgent need to endow Cameroon to advanced meteorological infrastructure, a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a meteorological service in Cameroon was signed.
So far, the country has no structure advanced, capable of temporal predictions which has negatively influenced agricultural, marine and aviation activities.
The project will contribute to the provision of reliable weather data for all sectors of activity and at the same time it will create more jobs. The memorandum of understanding signed last Thursday is valid for one year.
It will contribute to the formalization of lasting cooperation between the two parties for the implementation of the project.
In signing the documents, Cameroon is committed to provide all administrative and technical support while the Moroccan consortium will need to complete the project and become the sole supplier of meteorological data in Cameroon.
The consortium Finatech-Aviacom aura, meanwhile, has the task to carry out a feasibility study on the work within a period of three months.
There will also be the establishment of a Cameroonian company responsible for the maintenance and another which will ensure the operation of the platform.
According to Amine Benjelloun, the project should start in a year. But in the immediate future, the Moroccan structure will proceed with engineering and environmental studies.
