Women in Politics campaign launched in Yaounde

Parliament began its advocacy work by setting up a "national Pool of lawyers" on November 19, 2014 in Yaoundé. The programme presented a workshop on the theme, “Preserve the achievements, the challenges of gender equality and More Women in Politics to enhance gender equality".

Among the topics discussed, featured prominently the electoral Code to the text of practice, the strategic plan of UN women 2014-2017, the institutional framework for the promotion of equality in Cameroon, the arguments of advocacy for the effectiveness of the kind in the electoral process.


A presentation of the book "Gender, Leadership and political participation (1931-2013)" produced by More Women in Politics and financed by UN women and the SCAC was launched.


The meeting was attended by prominent academicians, institutional and gender experts. Four teaching modules were provided followed by an interaction session.


This session which brought together participants from Parliament, universities, administrations, traditional chiefdoms, firms, organizations of the civil society, the media, inter alia, was designed to develop and hone leadership skills of women in positions towards the cause and to be able to influence public policies and attitudes in their various vicinities.


As part of the celebration, lawyers gathered the next day at a parliamentary dinner on the theme: "Cameroon on the way to parity: the institutionalization of gender in public policies. This was a colourful evening filled with good music and good time among like minded intellectuals.

Thus, after a tribute to Cameroon for its commitment in politics and the unveiling the plan of action put in place by More Women in Politics and UN women for the capacity-building of women elected representatives as part of his campaign "2018... now is the preparation time".


In the formal phase, the public was treated to testimonies by elected officials, lawyers, the presentation of media consisting of a bilingual documentary on "Cameroon on the way to parity: success of joint action" and a "Magazine More Women in Politics, special legislative 2013.


In partnership with Ministry of women and family, with the support of UN women group organized this counsel for gender capacity-building workshop and a parliamentary advocacy dinner-as a prelude to 2018 elections.


At the end of the day, the participants expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work and readiness towards taking greater account of gender in public and Political Affairs, and especially for a male-female parity during the elections of 2018.
