A score of Cameroonians living in Equatorial Guinea raised high the flag of their fatherland, yesterday June 26, 2014 as the plane carrying President Paul Biya and First Lady, Chantal Biya touched the airstrip of the Malabo International Airport.
Thunderous applause, traditional songs and drumbeats from some regions in Cameroon greeted Paul and Chantal Biya as they made their way out of the airport to the Sipopo International Conference Hall to attend the 23rd African Union (AU) Summit on Agriculture and Food Security.
President Paul Biya and First Lady's arrival at Malabo did not end with the red carpet reception reserved for all Heads of State and Government attending the AU Summit. The Cameroonian community living in Equatorial Guinea kept something special for their Head of State and Wife and in an outstanding banner told their First Couple "We are happy to see Our President and First Lady, we wish you a nice time in Malabo."
As the presidential limousine made its way out of the airport, the over 100 Cameroonians who had gathered at the entrance of the airport some 30 minutes before the arrival of Paul and Chantal Biya intensified their dancing styles as they lifted high the flag of Cameroon alongside the effigies of the First Couple. The President of Lebialem Socio-Cultural and Development Association in Malabo, Makoly Nkengfun, told press men that it was a great honour and privilege to witness the arrival of Cameroon's First Couple.
Other dance groups such as the Association of indigenes from Lekie in the Centre Region, Upper-Nkam and Noun in the West Region and 'Le Voie du Sud' from the South Region expressed joy in receiving Paul and Chantal Biya through breathtaking dancing styles that left on-lookers spellbound.
Charlotte Asong, a Cameroonian living in Bata, in a well tailored kaba of the Cameroon's People Democratic Movement (CPDM) fabric said there was no other way she could express the love, peace and unity that reigns in Cameroon than come to the airport and hail the arrival of the person who is at the forefront of the peace.
Cameroon's Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Lazare Mpouel Bala said Cameroonians living in Equatorial Guinea had no better way to welcome their First Couple other than display in dance and fanfare.
