BBC World Service programmes in French, Hausa and English will reach more listeners on FM in West Africa as BBC radio content is now live on Radio Nostalgie in Cameroon, Bolivar FM in Guinea, and Radio Gaskia in Niger.
Radio Nostalgie, Bolivar FM and Radio Gaskia offer their listeners the BBC Afrique edition of BBC World Service’s Global Newsbeat bulletins. The programme connects with young listeners, bringing them the BBC’s global news in a fresh and dynamic style. Presented live from Dakar, the BBC Afrique edition of Global Newsbeat is broadcast every half hour, between 10.30 and 16.30 GMT.
The three radio stations also carry the BBC Afrique flagship daily news and current affairs programme, BBC Matin; the weekly news, current affairs, culture and sports review programmes, Le Grand Reportage, Le Magazine de la Culture and Chronique Foot; and the audience-participation programmes A vous l'antenne and Le Club BBC.
Listeners of Bolivar FM in Guinea can now enjoy BBC Afrique’s English-learning programme, La leçon d’Anglais par la radio, and BBC World Service’s flagship daily English-language radio programme for Africa, Focus On Africa. In addition to BBC Afrique programmes, Radio Gaskia in Niger offers its Hausa-speaking audiences the popular BBC Hausa programmes Shirin Safe, Shirin Hantsi, Shirin Rana and Shirin Dare.
Africa Editor for the BBC World Service, Solomon Mugera, comments: “The BBC continues to build on its heritage in Africa as a trusted source of impartial journalism and commitment to delivering key regional and international news. We have production centres in five cities on the continent and a network of reporters in most countries, including Cameroon, Guinea and Niger.”
The rebroadcasting partnership with Bolivar FM builds on BBC World Service’s presence in Guinea, where the BBC broadcasts on 93.9FM in Conakry and 93.9FM in Labé. In Niger, BBC radio is available on 100.4FM in Niamey while its programming is also rebroadcast by partner stations Anfani FM, Saraounia FM and R&M FM.
In Cameroon, BBC World Service broadcasts on 98.4FM in Yaoundé, 101.3FM in Douala, 95.7FM in Bamenda and 94.4FM in Garoua, while Radio Star in Bafoussam and Kalak FM in Yaoundé rebroadcast the BBC Afrique programming.
