...for sale of non-existent cars

Yaoundé policeman, Daniel James Mvondo, is reported to have duped two unsuspecting men of 12 million Fcfa for the sale of DGSN’s auctioned vehicles which he never delivered but absconded with the money.

The victims, Patrick Backinde and Raoul Nlend who spoke to CameroonWeb said they reposed trust in the suspect who claimed to be a relative of the DGSN’s boss Mbargua Nguele which he took advantage to extort money from them by selling cars allegedly being auctioned by the DGSN in December 2013.

Backinde and Nlend said after they made payments, Mvondo, kept postponing the delivery of the cars to them for four months till they decided to meet the DGSN boss themselves and explain the situation to him.

They said the DGSN revealed to them that he didn’t know the suspect Daniel James Mvondo and promised to assist them in bringing him to book.

“A search was conducted to locate Daniel but he was nowhere to be found until Monday a relative of ours saw him at Garoua heading for Yaoundé. We also headed to Yaoundé after reporting the new development to the police,” they added.

They said an “Avis de Recherche” escorted them to the airport where the boarding captain refused them entry into the plane suspected to be carrying the Mvondo. “Information was sent by the DGSN to the Douala International Airport police to arrest him on sight”.

They said the Police at Douala airport managed to arrest him but at their arrival with the police from the DGSN, they realized the Douala airport police had allowed him to leave with the excuse that he escaped.

The victims said they suspect the police officers at the Douala airport are Mvondo’s colleagues and allowed him to go.

Backinde and Nlend said the police were able to confiscate his luggage which contained 3 bank account numbers and other documents. “One of the policemen at the airport said Daniel James Mvondo called them to send him his bags and that he will pay them for it,” they added.
