The work of the third session of the Cameroon-Nigeria border security Committee has been ongoing since Wednesday in Yaounde.
Identify and propose measures to prevent conflicts or to restore peace and security in areas adjacent to the border was the objective of the work of the third session of the Cameroon-Nigeria border security Committee at the Mont Fébé hotel in Yaoundé.
The Nigerian delegation participating in the work was led by major general John B. Samuel, and that of Cameroon, by the Minister of Territorial Administration and decentralization, René Emmanuel Sadi.
For three days, both sides will review and make recommendations for the resolution of the problems faced by installed share populations and of the land and maritime border town.
In good place, criminality of the Islamist sect Boko Haram, banditry, customs fraud and smuggling, the circulation of small arms maritime piracy, drug trafficking, cattle originally from pastoral or inter-community conflicts uncontrolled movements.
Referring to the context to the opening of the Assizes, René Emmanuel Sadi noted with regret the multiplication of unspeakable acts perpetrated by elements of Boko Haram on the territories of the two countries.
He praised the quality and the scope of the resolutions adopted at the end of the recent special session of the Council for peace and security in Central Africa, because they carry high hopes in the fight against insecurity in the area common to both countries.
After recalling meetings and workshops that preceded the current foundations, the head of the delegation of Cameroon indicated that the meeting should make it possible to take stock of the security situation at the common border since the work of the second session held in Abuja from 8th to 11th July 2014; assess the bilateral measures already recommended as well as sub-regional and international initiatives to put an end to the activities of Boko Haram; identify and propose measures to build confidence between the main actors in cross-border security cooperation.
Before the Minister René Emmanuel Sadi, major-general John B. Samuel stated that the president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has requested that it stresses the importance it attaches to cooperation between Cameroon and Nigeria.
He invited the experts of the two sides to deliberate as brothers on the best ways of cooperation to secure the common border.
