The Yaounde city council has placed an injunction prohibiting the existence of car wash operating along strategic sites deemed appropriate for the city’s urban emergence.

A typical example of such is located at the Bethesda junction at the Nouvelle Route Bastos neighbourhood.

The car wash which has been existing for more than 30 years today has employed more than 50 car washers who serve close to 300 car-owners per day.

The council’s decision to ban this local car wash which functions daily in two groups, was virtually dismissed by the car washers given that the business have been lucrative to most of them who stormed Yaounde in search for greener pastures.

Even when the Yaounde City Council gives them another option to relocate behind the CPDM party house at “Valley de la Mort,” where they are expected to merge with an existing and more advanced car wash, they rather would not yield, with reasons that the space is insufficient.

While hoping to relocate finally when an appropriate site is made available the car washers would not mind to frequently battle out with forces of law and order who on their part are bent to ensure that council’s decision is implemented.

A similar exercise was witnessed yesterday 22nd January 2015 where the Yaounde City Council through its quest for urbanisation, carried out a massive demolition of make-shifts and illegal structures at the road-sites of Yaounde.
