Urban disorder continues to be a major source of worry in the capital city, Yaounde. In this light, the first meeting of the Mfoundi Divisional Committee for the Fight against Urban Disorder took place in Yaounde on Wednesday May 23. The purpose of the meeting was mainly to put in place the committee which will oversee the fight against urban disorder. The meeting was presided over by the Senior Divisional Officer for Mfoundi, Jean Claude Tsila.

Speaking during the occasion, Jean Claude Tsila announced that henceforth the Government Delegate to the Yaounde City Council and mayors will no longer be in charge of fighting urban disorder. Rather, it will be the task of the Divisional Committee for the Fight Against Urban Disorder. He said the team will be accompanied in its task by security men. Committee members discussed the plan of action for the days ahead. The focus will include illegal occupation of public space, the phenomenon of commercial motorbikes, noisiness at night, uncontrolled animal breeding, clandestine transport, street children, stray animals, improvised garages, cash washes on main roads, illicit sale of drugs, illicit sale of petroleum products and domestic gas and road safety among others.

According to Jean Claude Tsila, the mission of the committee is to make Yaounde a city where the public is respectful, where Cameroonians have a sense of civic duty and protection. No disorder will be tolerated in Yaounde, Jean Claude Tsila warned. The members of the Mfoundi Divisional Committee for the Fight Against Urban Disorder include mayors from the seven subdivisions of Yaounde, magistrates, officials of the Yaounde City Council as well as the forces of law and order.
