Youth day: Minister of Youth Affairs gives hope to detainees

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Fotso, has visited inmates of the Buea Central prison in the South West Region.

The visit was on the side-lines of the launch of activities marking the 50th edition of the Youth Week.

During the visit, Minister Mounouna Fotso donated a consignment of foodstuff and other goods basic necessity to the in mates who are mostly youths.

He urged them to be discipline and responsible citizens while incarcerated so that after the end of their terms of detention, they will contribute to the development of the nation.

The visit came after the Minister gave the kick-off of celebrations marking the golden jubilee of the Youth Day in Tiko in the south West Region.

The weeklong activities involving intellectual, cultural and sporting competitions between pupils and students of different schools will end with the award of trophies and a grand match past on the 11th February in all administrative headquarters.

The fiftieth anniversary of the Youth Day will be celebrated on 11th February 2016 on the theme “Youth, citizenship and the fight against insecurity for an emergent Cameroon.”

The Minister used the occasion to call on the youths to actively participate in Cameroon’s development drive. He warned against deviant behaviours and told the youths to be vigilant and denounce any suspicious individuals who want to distort national peace, harmony and territorial integrity.

Choreographic displays, traditional music and sketches from various schools of the region spiced the launching ceremony at the Tiko Grand Stand.
