They actively took part in National Day celebrations in Yaounde on Sunday May 20.

Garbed in colourful uniforms, youths from across the city of Yaounde on Sunday May 20, 2012 at the May 20 Boulevard, on the occasion of the National Day, showcased the spirit of patriotism. From the elementary through the secondary to the higher education levels, youths demonstrated their willingness to take the country to emergence by 2035 especially as they are considered as an asset for the country's development.

To display their devotion to citizenship, pupils from 14 schools, two from each Sub-division of the seven Divisions of the city, chanted songs pregnant with meaning to celebrate the peace and unity that reign in the country. In a similar way, some 14 secondary school students pointed out that "enterprising youths remain a guarantee to a prosperous Cameroon." In so doing, they all pledged to stand by the Head of State for the success of his 'Greater Accomplishments' policy.

Keeping in mind the theme of the event, "Cameroon's Armed Forces working resolutely towards strong, prosperous and emerging nation in a climate of peace and unity," youths set the stage decked with banners, fliers and balloons, all demonstrating their willingness to continue to strive for a peaceful and united Cameroon. In beautiful choreographic displays focusing on national unity and integration, some 14 private and public institutions of higher learning thanked the Head of State for recruiting 25, 000 youths into the Public Service, reassuring the nation of their commitment to join in boosting socio-economic development.

The passage of a special square comprising 180 Junior Parliamentarians of the 2011 session, solemnly dressed and walking with dignified steps befitting their status, was a starter for the civilian march past.
