The activities were launched by the Rector of the university on Wednesday.
The 2012/2013 sports season of the university of Yaounde II was launched on Wednesday November 28 by the rector of the institution, Prof. Oumarou Bouba. In a speech interspersed with drumming, the rector said sport is an important aspect in the training of students and that the activities are geared towards preparing athletes for the upcoming university games to take place in Ngaoundere.
He urged the athletes to work hard so as to either improve or maintain the second position they occupied during the 2011 university games in Buea.
According to the director of sports and cultural affairs of the University of Yaounde II, Zie Zie Ghotard, the activities also comprised a cultural aspect as the university is equally preparing for university cultural festival to come up later in the year.
The launching ceremony saw a match past of the various clubs and private university institutions in partnership with the University of Yaounde II comprising the Majorettes, Communication Club, Red Cross, environment, fans club, band and traditional dance group of the university of Yaounde II. There were also competitions in football, athletics, basketball, and handball regrouping university institutions like Matamfen, Sep de Co, Siantou and ISTAG, ESSTIC, FSEG, FSJP and ISMA.
