Vote holders in the Centre Region have been urged to strive for efficiency in the execution of the 2013 budget so that at term, they would have contributed substantially to socio-economic growth in the region and by extension in realising the growth vision of the country. Centre Regional Governor, Roger Moïse Eyene Nlom, made the call yesterday January 10 while giving a kicker to the execution of the State budget in the region.

He told the respective Regional Delegates of different ministries, Mayors and other vote holders who took part in the event that the Head of State's Greater Accomplishment programme should be translated into concrete reality on the field so that the impact can be felt by all and sundry. The 2013 package for the region was not disclosed as the Project's Catalogue, officials said, was still being awaited.

However, yesterday's budget launching gave stakeholders the opportunity to review performance in 2012 and share innovations for 2013 contained in both the 2013 Finance Law and the budget execution circular from the Ministry of Finance. According to Mrs Tsafac Berthe who represented the Minister of Finance at the event, the 2013 budget is unique in that it marks an effective take off of result-based management budget (programme budget) with innovations to boost growth. She said all hands must be put on deck in the execution of the budget to consolidate growth and ensure the competitiveness of the economy. Like her, the Regional Delegates of Economy, Planning and Regional Development and that of Public Contracts stressed on efficiency and celerity in public contracts programming, follow up, control and execution.

According to the Centre Regional Delegate of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Akoa Christophe, the region in 2012 had a budget of FCFA 16.7 billion with 1,093 projects to be executed. As at December 31, 2012 he said the region recorded a physical execution rate of 83 per cent. "We will strive to scrupulously respect the public contracts code and all vote holders must each strive for efficiency in his domain so that the objectives of the results-oriented budget are attained," he said.
