A series of attacks over the weekend led to lost of some CFA 2.1 million and several properties destroyed.
The small village of Bojongo in the outskirts of Bonaberi, the main entrance to the port city of Douala, is gradually recovering from shocks following a series of surprise onslaughts simultaneously launched against three homes by heavily armed bandits in the night of Friday breaking Saturday.
Separate groups of masked gangsters operating with locally made pistols, daggers, machetes and heavy clubs burgled the homes of Olivier Jonathan Moudio and Gontrang Ndombe Ndame at about 3am. The incident provoked consternation when gunshots were heard in the village from the home of Gontrang Ndombe just about the same time the sound of breaking glass sheets was heard in the neighbouring compound. Four gangsters had broken through the iron-clad door and wooden casement of the residence of Olivier Jonathan Moudio after firing empties into the air.
Police reports attest to evidence by the rural population that the terror was orchestrated by four gangsters looting both families of some CFA 2.060.000F and valuables. A source says they have picked up plastic pieces indicating that the attackers fired empties.
At about the same hour not far from the neighbourhood another group of unidentified brigands armed with four rifles and machetes said to be specialised in burglary climbed over the fence of 49-year-old Thomas Balinga. According to field information, residents were forcefully awoken, some beaten with gun butts and forced to surrender CFA 90.000 at gunpoint.
The awe-stricken inhabitants of Bojongo stayed past dawn in fear until police arrival and stay in the village throughout rest of the weekend afforded some solace.
