Mayo Danay flood victims get gov't aid

More than 1827 victims of the flood in Mayo Danay have received aid from President Paul Biya.

These gifts comprising food, beddings and medication were handed on Thursday 25th September 2014 by the Minister of Economic Planning and Regional Development Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi who was heading an inter-ministerial fact-finding delegation in the area.

The mission was organized following the collapse of the dyke on 19th September 2014 causing even more damage to the population who did not heed to Government’s instructions to quit the area.

The collapse of the dyke on the river Logone has separated Yagoua and Dougui . At the Begue-Palam where the flood victims have been resettled, Minister Nganou Djoumessi extended the head of state’s message of comfort and solidarity promising to have the dyke definitely constructed. In the mean time, he entreated the population to quit the danger zone giving the recurrence of the devastating floods.

At the first occurrence, government called on the population to quit and settle in a temporal relief centre created for the purpose.

The minister called on political and opinion leaders, traditional authorities and elites to continue sensitizing the population on the risk of living in the dangerous zone.
