Cameroonian player, Lionel Asu, who left Malawi after contractual dispute with his club Mighty 'Be Forward Wanderers' has died in his home country.

The player's manager Prince Jere, confirmed to have received the news of his death from a sister.

According to him, Asu’s sister called him on the phone to inform him of Asu’s death after a short illness in his hometown, Doula.

Jere who was surprised with the sudden news stated "Words cannot describe, Rest in peace".

Wanderers' manager Chiyembekezo Zidana also said, everyone at Lali Lubani road is "shocked and deeply saddened" by the news of Asu's death.

Asu, according to Wanderers manager, was extremely popular both on and off the pitch. His death has shocked and saddened everyone in the football club.
