Memories of the December 8, 2016 riots that rocked Bamenda are still fresh. In effect, the City is still at a loss about the massive destruction and looting that equally caused the city to bury their dead.
It is on record at the North West governor’s office that the clashes between security forces and some youths led to the death of four people. While some four gendarmes and four police officers on duty suffered injuries.
Away from the security forces, 33-year-old Kubui, a CPDM militant was burnt, while the CPDM Permanent Chargé de mission for the North West, Dr. Nwana Bernard, received a wound on the head. In the generalized disorder, several vehicles suffered destruction or damages.
Among them included the service cars of the Gendarmerie Legion Commander. Other cars damaged include those of EES/BRIM, Bamenda III Sub-division, Special Adviser of the Prime Minister, Fonye Francis, CDE, CAMPOST, ESIR, VID Gendarmerie and the car of the 3rd District Police Station whose District Station was equally burnt.
The violence reached out to the Bamenda Regional Hospital where some of the wards were scattered. In the short and long of it, some 58 suspects linked to the violence were arrested and detained by gendarmes and police.
