Basic Education establishments in Douala II Subdivision received the government support Thursday, August 30.

Government primary schools in New Bell and other areas of the Douala II Municipalities received a consignment of cartoons of chalk, pens, exercise books, benches among several other materials for teaching as government 2012-2013 support to institutions of Basic Education.

The material support from the Council, which entered its third edition last week, was a part of on-going exercise of national decentralisation in the Basic Education sector to encourage transparency, objectivity and citizenship. However, insufficient to meet all the needs of schools the support is a significant booster to help defray cost and expenses schools incurred at the beginning of the academic year. It shows, according to Mayor Fampou Denise, a part of government priority efforts indicated in the fact that education remains a factor for sustainable development in the country.

She said government has created many primary schools in order to get closer to the schools and their pupils to emphasise the role of basic education to guarantee equality of opportunity without discrimination. One of the beneficiary head teachers pointed out that where quality basic education is lacking it may constitute an important obstacle to development. He recalled the necessity of the support saying that, apart from the difficulty of securing them at the beginning of the school year when financial needs are many due to various priorities, it will help encourage us to work towards upholding quality education which is important as a development factor to attain the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
