10 Countries Qualify for 2014 World Cup

They are from the Europe, Asia, South American and North American and Caribbean zones.

While countries from Africa and the Oceania zones are still bracing up for the last round qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, some 10 countries from the European, Asian, North and South American zones have already won the much coveted tickets for the world most prestigious sports event.

Europe zone

Italy and the Netherlands are the first countries to have emerged from the euro zone thanks to victories recorded against the Czech Republic and Andorra respectively. Germany, Switzerland and Russia who equally recorded victories are yet to be mathematically qualified for the final round of the world football jamboree but are one step closer. Their fate will be decided during the next playing day on October 11th.

South America

Argentina confirmed forecasts by beating Paraguay, already eliminated, to become the first South America country to qualify on the field of play since Brazil automatically qualified as host nation. Colombia and Chile could also qualify before the end of the qualifiers in case of victory on the next day of play. Venezuela and Peru are counting on the play-offs to hope to clinch a ticket for the Promised Land.

CONCACAF Zone

The United States of America and Costa Rica are the first countries from the CONCACAF zone to win tickets for the final round of the 2014 world cup. The US edged Mexico 2-0 to seal their qualification while Costa Rica played a zero all tie against the 'Reggae Boyz' in Kingston-Jamaica. The Panama and Honduras are virtually at the end of the road.

Asia Zone

Iran and the Korea republic have already qualified for the final round of the World cup whereas; Jordan beat Oubeskistan in the return leg play-off in the Asian zone and will have to go through another play-off against the 5th team from the South American zone in November to fetch for qualification.

Africa Zone

The ten qualified countries for the third and last round qualifiers include Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cape-Verde, Senegal, Algeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana and Cameroon. The first five teams on the FIFA ranking expected to be published today, will be the top seeds for the draws. Five nations will qualify for the final round of the competition after the play-off matches to be played on home and away basis. The surprise guests at this level of the competition are Cape Verde, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
