The Minister of Sports and Physical Education Adoum Garoua passed by the Finance Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday where he discussed with members about an increase in the budget of his department for the financial year 2015.
In his forecast, the Minister of Sports requesting a budget of FCFA 23.7 billion, an increase of FCFA 2.2 billion compared to 2014 fiscal year. In the distribution of this amount, FCFA 14 billion for operating expenses while FCFA 9.7 billion will be used for investment.
At the end of his interview with the commission, Adoum Garoua tersely told the press that "sport is an alibi," the request made to the increase that would induce further increases in the overall budget.
Referring to African Nations Cups 2016 and 2019, the Minister believes that this increase would set the tone of investments, including the construction of infrastructure in both sports, but also in the related fields of tourism, urban development health, transport or telecommunications.
