After the elimination of the bulk of Cameroonian athletes from the ongoing Olympic Games in London, Cameroon last hopes of winning a medal in the competition lie on Ali Annabel Laure. The last surviving athletes from Team Cameroon will be going down the wrestling arena on August 9.

The Cameroonian flag bearer at the London Olympics stands real chances of winning a medal given the fact that she is vice world champion in wrestling and gold medalist at the last All African Games in Maputo. In order to prepare for the event, Ali Annabel Laure left the games village she considered too noisy for concentration to continue her training in France where she started preparing before the competition. She would leave for London barely two days to the event, poised to make Cameroon proud.

Meanwhile the eliminated athletes came back to the country on Friday, August 5th like a thief in the night. Of the 33 athletes that went in for the competition, 31 have been eliminated already and only Frederic Fokedjou and Ali Annabel Laure are still left in London. Fokedjou will be competing in the 105 plus kilogrammes in weightlifting. The best performances so far have been those of Sarah Hanffou and Thomas Essomba who succeeded in going through the preliminary round of the table tennis and boxing competitions respectively.
