Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto has sharply criticized English Premier League players for faking loyalty to their clubs but easily jump to another during the transfer window.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player and now St Etienne left-back has clearly stated he plays football for the money.
In an interview with The Sun, Assou-Ekotto said many of the players who kiss the badge after scoring a goal want to make the fans happy till the transfer window opens.
"I can tell you in nine years that I saw many players kissing the badge, maybe they make fans happy when they score and kiss the badge but many of them are waiting for the transfer window," Assou-Ekotto said.
"Players like Steven Gerrard, who had Real Madrid or Chelsea wanting him and he said he would stay at Liverpool, they must love football and the club. But it’s a business. Most players say it’s a passion but they think it’s a job. People think footballers are stupid airheads. But only intelligent people think about being paid correctly for the work you do," he added.
