The contention for the leadership title this year might boil down to a duel between Unisport and Astres. Both teams are separated by barely a point at the helm of the classification chart after six days of play.
Despite pulling a one-all tie against Njalla Quan Sports Academy at the Centenary Stadium in Limbe last Saturday, Unisport managed to cling on the first position with 14 points. However, Astres in the second position is turning the heat on the league leaders as they as barely one point behind. Douala Athletic Club and New Stars follow suit in the third and fourth positions respectively on 12 points each but Douala Athletic Club having a better goal difference.
Another remarkable happening on the 6th day of play, is the first victory recorded by Renaissance of Ngoumou since the beginning of the championship. Renaissance edged Canon 1-0 in Yaounde to gain two places on the classification table, moving from the 13th to the 10th position. Meanwhile Coton Sport emerged victorious in the clash if the Titans, beating the defending champions 2-0 in Garoua. The Benjamin of the group still remains Fovu of Baham who despite recording a draw against Douala Athletic Club still occupies the 14th and last position.
In a related development, Canon has fired Soulemanou Aboubakar as coach for failing to yield good results. Canon and Tonnerre are yet to put their dream to reality by featuring among the first trio of the championship which will guarantee them a place in continental competitions next year. However, there is still time for the clubs to make amends as the championship is only in the 6th day of play of the first phase.
