Côte d’Ivoire’s skipper Yaya Touré said that their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Cameroon in Yaoundé on Wednesday taught them a good lesson.
Already on target against DR Congo in Lubumbashi in Cameroon’s Group D opener of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers, Clinton N’Jie and Vincent Aboubakar ripped the Elephants’ defence to pieces, bagging a brace each.
“It was a very difficult game. We tried to control the match, and in the second half we created several chances. But we can only blame ourselves,” Yaya said at the post-match press conference.
“It is not over yet. There are four games remaining. And sometimes it is good to take a drubbing, because today we took a good one,” the Manchester City’s midfielder admitted.
Côte d’Ivoire are now third on the log on three points, on equal footing with DR Congo who enjoy a better goal difference and with both teams trailing the Indomitable Lions by three points.
