Cameroon beat DR Congo to qualify for AFCON 2015

Cameroon have extended their lead in Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Democratic Republic of Congo by a lone goal thanks to Vincent Aboubakar in the 71st minute.

The Indomitable Lions now have 13 points followed by Cote D’Ivoire with 9 points, DR Congo with 6 points and Zambia with a point.


At this position, Cameroon automatically qualifies for the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea.


Vincent Aboubakar redeemed the Indomitable Lions with a goal in the 71st. minute of play.


The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon locked horns with The Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo in this much awaited duel at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.


Cameroon only needed a point to qualify for the 2015 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea as they lead Group D with 10 points.

Cote d’Ivoire defeated Sierra Leone 5-1 on Friday in Abidjan making the task of the Congolese side more difficult as Cote D’Ivoire are now placed second in Group D with nine points ahead of DR Congo with six points.


Volker Finke maintained confidence in the same squad that began the qualifiers with only a few new names added to the squad namely Patrick Ekeng Ekeng, Adolphe Teikeu and Alexandre Kombi.


Cameroon have been almost faultless in their qualifying campaign having scored eight goals and only conceding one. They beat DR Congo 2-0 away from home in their first outing thanks to goals from Clinton Njie and Vincent Aboubakar.


Line-up for the Indomitable Lions: Ondoua, Nkoulou, Mbia, Oyongo, Bedimo, Eyong, Mandjeck, Salli, Choupo, Njie, Kwekeu.
