Outside the silver medals fetched for Cameroon by Ali Annabel Laure and bronze got Rebecca Muambo in the weightlifting 75kg and 48 kg respectively, there has been one more medal won by Cameroon in the competition.

The medal was got at the last minute by Tomo Angele in the 69kg weightlifting event and not Christelle Lemofack Letchidjo announced to have grabbed the gold medal in the 53kg weightlifting event who did not as much as win the final for the bronze medal.

Cameroon’s tally therefore stands at six medals; one gold, three silver and two bronze. Cameroon maintains the 15th position obtained after the 6th day of competitions on Tuesday, July 29.

Cameroon however stands a chance of increasing her booty through Marlyne Ngo Ngoa engaged in the final of the long jump event. The other hopeful for a medal of the day, Edwige Ngono Eyia lost in the quarter final of the 58kg in the weightlifting category to Sakshi Malik in the quarter final just as Armand Essindi in the 61kg men’s category.

Louamen C. and Djoumessi R. threw in the towel right at the round of 16. Petit Minkoumba emerged 7th in the weightlifting 94kg category with a total of 320kg lifted, 19 kilogrammes from the first who lifted 349kg.

Cameroon has hopes of increasing its medal tally in Joelle Mbumi Nkouinndjin who is involved in the final of the triple jump event today. Meanwhile it has been the end of the road for athletes like Marie Ngono Zibi and Oyono Oyono who were eliminated from the triple jump and javelin throw events respectively.

It is feared that the number of desertions will rise as the competition progresses as there are rumours of official of certain countries who go round trying to convince Cameroonians athletes to change their nationalities and adopt theirs so as to benefit from better care and opportunities.
