They won a lap victory, emerged runner up of a lap and appear among the top 20 of the competition. It was an impressive performance from Cameroonian cyclists who took part in the 2015 edition of the cycling tour of Cote d’Ivoire christened this year as ‘Tour de la reconciliation’.

They had a lap victory to their credit with Geremie Nzeke who won the first lap of the race between Diabakala and Katiola.

Another Cameroonian, Yannick Lontsi, who emerged 4th in the first lap, placed second in the 6th lap run which was a criterium within the town of Yamoussoukro. He also had the best record among the Cameroonians in the competition, emerging 6th in the overall classification at the end of the race.

Three other Cameroonian also appeared among the top 20 of the competition which brought together some 56 cyclists namely; Kamzong Abbossolo who took the 11th position, Mbah Herve Raoul who emerged 15th and Geremie Nzeke, the winner of the first lap who finally emerged 19th. The two other Cameroonians were far from ridicule as Tekou Damien emerged 25th and Yemeli Herman was 26th.

Meanwhile the race was won by Mouhssine Lahsaini from Morocco. He was followed by Janvier Hadi from Rwanda. Belgian born Guy Smet came third. The performance of the Cameroonian cyclists augers well for Cameroon during the upcoming 15th edition of the Grand Prix international Chantal Biya.

As a reminder, the six cyclists who took part in the cycling tour of Cote d’Ivoire returned to the country three days ago to resume training with the rest of the team to defend the national colours for the Grand prix Chantal Biya.

They are lodged at the Meumi Hotel in Yaoundé from where they will leave next week for reconnaissance visits to the race course in Douala, Mbalmayo, Sangmelima, Meyomessala and back to Yaoundé.
