The National Syndicate of Cameroonian Footballers say the domestic league will pay homage to the striker who died in Algeria last week Saturday

Cameroon is still under shock following the tragic death of Albert Ebosse of Algerian club JS Kabylie, who was struck on the head by a projectile hurled from the stands by local fans during the club’s 2-1 loss to USM Alger in the second match day of the Algerian Ligue 1.

The National Syndicate of Cameroonian Footballers (SYNAFOC), which is composed of professional footballers from the country, announced on Tuesday that a minute of silence would be observed in memory of the 24-year-old striker during the domestic league fixtures of next Sunday August 31.

All the league players will be wearing black armbands to pay homage to Ebosse, who was a member of the association until his death, according to officials.

“The Synafoc hereby expresses its anger and condemns in the strongest terms this despicable act that took the life of one of its member on a football field," the association said in a statement.

The president of Cameroon Football Federation Joseph Owona earlier addressed his “deepest” condolences to the family of Ebosse and called on his Algerian counterpart Mohamed Raouraoua to investigate the “appalling event” and make sure that those responsible for “such a gruesome and cowardly act" were severely punished.
