Cameroonian athletes face stiff competition at the Africa Athletic Championship at the Africa Athletic Championship with triple jumper, Hugo Mamba making it to the finals slated for Wednesday, August 13. However, Cameroon currently has only got a single bronze medal.
Cameroon faces stiff competition at Marrakech (Morocco) since Sunday, marking the opening day of the competition. The last disappointment was experienced with the relay team for both men and women. On Wednesday the 4 x 100 m final also, Armand Tsoaoule fell in the semifinals of the triple jump with a leap of 15 m 05.
The first success of Cameroon, however came from a long jump. Wednesday, Joëlle Sandrine Mbumi came to put an end to the sullen days of Cameroon in these 19th European Athletics Championships which started on August 10 in Marrakech. With a leap of 6 m 25, Joëlle Sandrine Mbumi won bronze in the long jump, the first medal of Cameroon in this competition.
Labarang Charifa and Adam Idrissa recently qualified for the final of the 200 m ladies and men. Adam Idrissa got his qualification through its posture of second best performer in the semi-finals. With a time of 20 seconds 64, the Cameroonians will be part of a race of eight where he will have to go faster than the other Kenyans, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, etc.
In these finals, they all aim at winning the gold medal at the Marrakech Stadium.
For Adam Idrissa, this is the determining race. The sprinter medal hopefully could end up in Cameroon at the departure of the delegation. He was also gold medallist in the category at the Africa games with a time of 20sec66. He now needs to step up to the Nigerians and other Moroccans, masters of these Championships. Qualifying for the IAAF Continental Cup, these Championships seem to bring happiness to Cameroon.
While the competition is drawing to an end, no Cameroonian athlete need to work hard to (in each discipline) qualify for this tournament scheduled in September still Morocco.
