CAPS United coach Mark Harrison is refusing to release players to the Zimbabwe Under-23 side that is set to do duty against Cameroon in the All Africa Games qualifiers.
According to The Herald, Harrison addressed a letter to Zimbabwean Football Association CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze refusing to allow his players to join the Young Warriors camp, claiming that he had the support of his club boss Twine Phiri.
"Please be advised that we are unable to release our players Ronald Pfumbidzai, Takudzwa Mahori, Kudzai Nyamupfukudza for your camp and game against Cameroon for the All-Africa Games qualifier," Harrison wrote. "Reasons being that we have been advised that our league games start on the same weekend as the game versus Cameroon.
"These players are vital for our preparations and our season ahead. I have spoken to Mr Phiri (Twine) regarding this matter and he fully agrees with me. We thank you in advance for your co-operation."
The All Africa Games do not fall within the FIFA international calendar as the match against Cameroon is scheduled for March 21.
ZIFA communications manager Xolisani Gwesela meanwhile said that the association are not happy with the Caps move, and "will not allow Harrison to bully the national Under-23 technical team."
