Douala intra-police championship launched

Police Commissioner, Boniface Fonjock, presided at the kick-off ceremony on Saturday, November 1.

The Inter-Service Police Football Championship in the Wouri Division has taken off in the administrative headquarters, Bonanjo with 12 teams seriously bracing up to grab the trophy and a heavy cash price.

Sixteen goals scored for matches counting for the first day of play are telling of the determination of the various police units to grab the trophy. During the first match on Saturday, November 1st, the Regional Unit in charge of Traffic Control and Circulation crushed a combined team of the Special Police Station of the Railway and Emi-Immigration 9-0 while the Central Police Station N°1 humbled the Special Police Station of the Douala International Airport 6-1.

On the second day of play, the Mobile Intervention Regiment N°2 for the Littoral (GMI) separated on a zero all tie with the Rapid Intervention Unit (ESIR).

The Special Police Station of the Douala Port Authority during the second match trashed the Central Police Station N° 3 by three goals to one.

Launching the kick-off of the tournament, organised by the Regional Delegation for National Security, Police Commissioner, Boniface Fonjock stressed on discipline and fair play as the watchword of the championship. The championship that regroups 12 teams in the different police units implanted in Douala is placed in two phases.

Four teams shall be eliminated during the knockout stage that runs till December 21st while eight teams will qualify for the quarter finals. The main objective of the tournament is to bring the different police units together and to keep them fit for any intervention.
