FAP wins National Athletics Championship

They emerged the overall best team during the 55th edition of the national championship this weekend in Limbe.

The 55th edition of the athletics national championship took place over the weekend in Limbe with athletes from FAP athletics club emerging overall best in the medal count. According to an unofficial classification after the competition, FAP grabbed a total of 28 medals, 10 in gold, 4 silver and 14 bronze.

They were closely followed by CMSP with 17 medals, five gold, eight silver and four bronze. The Higher institute of Youth and Sports, INJS which used to dominate the championship in the past, emerged third with seven medals; two gold, three silver and two bronze.

Other clubs like that of the University of Buea, AAC, LIRAO, UBa, AIA also took part in the competition but with negligible booties.

The competition was in track and field events like 100m race, 400x100m, long, jump, triple jump, high jump, discus throw, hammer throw, shot put and other disciplines. It is worthy to mention that this is the second major athletics event at the Limbe stadium since its inauguration.

The first was the African Masters Athletics which saw Cameroon carrying the day both on and off the track as veterans from Cameroon dominated the competition and a Cameroonian, Etong Paulette re-elected president of the continental organization.
