FECAFOOT deadline over, awaits FIFA's decision

The Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT, is in the spotlight again as Friday 20th March, 2015 marked the end of the Mandate of the Normalisation Committee of the Federation.

A wave of suspense has gripped the federation as committee members, as well as football fans seek to know FIFA's response to the Cameroonian delegation presently sojourning in Zurich.

The delegation is supposed to meet with FIFA Executives who are expected to discuss issues to help Cameroon build back the fragile football federation by bring up lasting solutions to their electoral problems.

It should be noted that, FIFA had extended the mandate of the normalisation committee at FECAFOOT after the International Court of Arbitration and Sport declared null and void the 2013 general assembly of the normalisation committee.

It was against this backdrop that the World football governing body FIFA, created the normalisation committee on 22nd July 2013 to revise the statutes, conduct elections and manage the daily affairs of FECAFOOT.

The creation of this committee was due to the frequent interventions of the Cameroon government in the affairs of the federation.

The Committee then elected Iya Mohammed for another mandate even though he was in detention.

Within the eight months period granted by FIFA to the committee, elections were organised at the divisional, regional and national levels.

In the meantime, another group of disgruntled individuals including Joseph Antoine Bell, John Begheni Ndeh and Essomba Eyenga pursued legal actions against the 2013 general assembly of the federation.

In response to their reaction, the International Court of Arbitration in Lizane asked FIFA to push the operation of the Normalisation Committee at FECAFOOT to 28th February 2015, within which a new executive board must be voted to power, but the elections were once more cancelled.

With all the electoral problems at FECAFOOT, FIFA will be meeting with a football delegation from Cameroon this Friday to decide the fate of the Normalisation committee at FECAFOOT.
