Super Falcons interim coach Christopher Danjuma has attributed his team’s 2-1 loss to Cameroon in the women’s soccer event of the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo to poor feeding, insisting that the Cameroonians couldn’t have beaten his girls if they had been properly fed.

In a post-match chat after his side were mauled by the Lionesseses, in the second semi-final of the women soccer event, Danjuma said the girls “fed mostly on bread and butter and, occasionally, rice with stew,” pointing out that “this affected them a lot”.

According to him, the Ghanaians and Cameroonians, who will clash in the final made private arrangements for their local delicacies for their teams, which was one of the reasons his lasses lacked the strength to match the robust play of Cameroun.

“I won’t blame it only on the kind of food the host and organisers serve us, but it [the kind of food] is a big factor why we lost. The early goal unsettled my players and they lost concentration and allowed the Cameroonians to dictate the pace of the game.

“Our game plan was to remain calm and wear them out with our passing, but when they scored two early goals, my girls lost their composure and never got back. It is football and you get punished when you lose concentration. We shall learn from this,” he said.

On the third place game against Cote d’ Ivoire, Danjuma said they will give their best to ensure that they win the bronze medal, because “the Falcons are still the best in Africa despite the recent losses”.
