Fecafoot Re-Brands Image

A press conference to launch the new communication platform took place on March 3, 2014.

In order to cleanse the battered image of the Cameroon football federation, the newly recruited communication and marketing officer, Laurence Fotso, yesterday granted a press conference at the Mont Febe hotel in Yaounde, to launch a new communication platform for the federation. The platform comprises meetings with the various partners of Fecafoot including journalists, government and the public in general. Seminars, press diners and conferences will also be organized to edify the public on certain topical issues of the day

Besides regular meetings with partners, the new platform also comprises using the social media (internet, Facebook) to dish out information about the activities of the federation. The website of the federation has been re-designed and an interactive media centre created. There is also provision for online broadcasting videos on the federation on Youtube.

In order to rally the public behind the Lions for the 2014 World Cup expedition to Brazil, a special raffle draw dubbed 'i-Lion' was launched. The draw to run from March 3rd top May 20 will see interested participants win free Lion's jerseys, diner with the Lions and two free trips to Brazil to witness the world cup with all expenses paid by Fecafoot. Participation is by posting a telling picture of oneself as the most fervent supporter of the Lions on the Fecafoot Facebook page and urging people to vote in one's favour. Those who receive the highest number of votes are designated winners. A television spot presenting the raffle draw was also presented during the press conference.

Meanwhile the officer in charge of ticketing took advantage of the press conference to give an account of the sales of world cup tickets so far in Cameroon. Silvestre Gweth Matip disclosed that only 180 tickets per match have been sold so far in Cameroon out of the 8053 potential tickets that were reserved for Cameroon. Now the tickets have been put on sale on the world market and sales will be by raffle draws.

The president of the Normalisation Committee of Fecafoot, Joseph Owona, also revealed that Cameroon will be facing a Latin American country in the send-off match in Yaounde and that the Lions will likely have as additional sparring partners, Peru, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Paraguay. He refuted allegations that Laurence Fotso demanded the sum of FCFA3.5 million to cleanse the image of Fecafoot. Quizzed on whether the mandate of the Normalisation committee will be prolonged or not, the professor referred journalists to FiFa, saying the draft modified statutes has been submitted to the world football governing body and it is for FIFA to say whether their mandate will be prolonged or not. He frowned against journalists who give false information saying he has nothing to hide and will continue to be transparent in the handling the issues of Fecafoot.
