A nascent son of kumbo is now charting the way for others to follow in football especially for players who hail from the hilly grass-field area of Bui.

This defender is one of the few players to be the winner of the Cameroon Professional League, the Champion of Cameroon for two years running with Yong Sport Academy, YOSA and Cotonsport of Garoua.

He played the Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup and was recently part of the squad that won the bronze medal at the CEMAC Cup.

Ngonso Magazine interviewed this player whose ambition is to be one of the few to play for the Cameroon national team, the Indomitable Lions.

Read Excerpts:

Could you start by telling us who you are?

My names are Bongyang Fernando, I hail from Kumbo in the Northwest region where my parents reside. I started my football with the Brasseries Football School, played with Yong Sports Academy before moving to Cotonsport this season.

Is it the title won with YOSA that took you to Cotonsport?

I think winning the title with YOSA contributed a lot to my move to Cotonsport, I was seen during the finals and this is how they expressed interest in me.

Which other teams have you played with?

I played also with PWD Bamenda and Bali United.

Cotonsport coach, Didier Da Rosa seems to have so much confidence in you if my observation is correct.

Yes, since I went to Cotonsport, I have been in the line-up and played most of the matches and I am happy and thankful for the support in the team.

How has the season been with Cotonsport?

This is my first year with Cotonsport and I am very happy, everything has been moving on well, since we started with the Champions League, the CAF Confederations, the professional football League and the Cameroon Cup. I am very happy.

As defender what are your objectives?

My main challenge is to control the defence for the team not to concede many goals, this is what I have been doing for past season and so far things have moved on well.

What are your personal ambitions?

My main target is to play in the national team and for a club abroad.

Who is your idol in the national team?

My Idol is Nicolas Nkoulou, I like his play style and want to play like him.
