'Festi Foot Vacances' Kicks off in Nkolondom

The second edition of the holiday football tournament dubbed, 'Festi Foot Vacances' took off last Sunday at the St. Jean the Baptiste mission field in Nkolondom-Yaounde. The tournament organised to keep youths busy during the long holidays comprises 16 male football teams, 8 feminine, 10 cadet and 8 minim football clubs.

The opening ceremony was characterised by a gala match opposing two female football clubs; Messa-Si Deux Zero and Tempo Tempo in an encounter that ended in favour of the later 2-0. There were also musical presentations by renowned artistes such as Jean Pierre Essome, Aijo Mamladou, Miss Charlotte and a live orchestra. Earlier that morning, there was a cross country race regrouping youths from around the area.

The tournament took the airs of a popular feast as over five thousand people turned out to watch the match. The tournament is sponsored by Jean Marie Abouna, who did not only construct the field but also built two classrooms for inhabitants of Nkolondom from where he hails. Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Minister of Small and Medium-size Enterprises, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa said Festi Foot Vacances was just one of the several holiday football tournaments organised with the Yaounde I municipality to inculcate the values of peace, hard work and tolerance. He urged the youths to exercise fair play during the competition.
