Four Countries Set for Akpabio International Tourney

Four countries comprising Togo, Ghana, Benin Republic, Cameroun and 22 states of the federation have declared their intention to participate in the 7th edition of Godswill Akpabio International U-18 Boys Unity Football Tournament slated for September 14- 22 at Uyo Township Stadium.

The detail released by the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr. Uko Akpabio, the 22 states include: The host state Akwa Ibom, Abia, Kano, Rivers, Lagos, Plateau, Bauchi, Delta, Edo, Kastina, Bayelsa, Sokoto, Oyo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Gombe, Niger, Cross River, Benue, Ondo, Zamfara and Kaduna.

Tournament coordinator John Ekpenyong said the competition which is in its seventh edition is set to encourage the young ones going into football to get proper exposure under the right atmosphere.

Ekpenyong advised the 31 local government council in the state to avail their local government youths the opportunity to be selected during this event and to also show a greater respect for Governor Godswill Akpabio by registering their local government team.

He said, the best 16 players of the tournament will be selected to participate in a tournament in Faro in Portugal next year.
