Cameroon veteran defender, Pierre Wome Nlend has signed a new contract with French Division 3 outfit, FC Chambery recently.

The journeyman Wome Nlend has played for morethan 13 clubs in 7 countries, being one of seven players to have played in the top division in Cameroon, France, Italy, Spain, England and Germany throughout his career. The versatile left fullback has continued his quest for more glory by moving to France where he will put his experience and talent into good use.

Before moving to France, Wome captained Canon of Yaounde to the Cup of Cameroon finals but failed to lift the trophy. He later on moved to UMS of Loum but the move was short-lived due to internal conflicts.

It should be noted that the Veteran defender is yet to announce his retirement from international football and it is believed that his move to France could possibly be a strategy to be recalled in the lions’ den.

Wome began his career with Canon Yaoundé and later moved to Italy in 1996 for his professional career. He began his senior career at Vicenza Calcio and spent almost 7 years in Italy before moving to English Premier League side Fulham FC in August 2002. In 1999, he moved to Bologna F.C. 1909 and later to Roma.

Also, he played for football powerhouses like RCD Espanyol, FC Internazionale Milano, Brescia, Sapins and SV Werder Bremen before joining FC Köln in 2008. Wome made his first international debut with the Lions in 1998, scoring 5 goals in 69 appearances.

He was a key member of the squads that won consecutive African Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2002 and the Olympic gold medal in 2000. Womé also played as Cameroon's first choice left back in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. On March 19, 2007, Womé announced his retirement from international football.

He later returned to the team in 2009 for a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Morocco.
