The newly-elected third vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, Cameroonian-born, Colonel Kalkaba Malboum was given a heroic welcome upon his return to the country on Thursday, September 2nd, 2015.

Prominent among those who turned out at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport to welcome this illustrious son of Cameroon was the Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla, the vice president of the national Olympic committee, Gregoire Owona and Senator Alioum Alhadji.

There were also family members and Kalkaba’s tribesmen who turned out to congratulate their kindred for contributing to the international prominence of Cameroon by winning the election as third vice president of the world athletics body.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, the colonel said he was happy to be back in the country especially with the warm welcome that was reserved for him. He said his election was not easy especially as he had to face eight other candidates from countries that are better off than Cameroon such as Canada and France.

He said he was taking the relay from the another African, Lamine Diack, though at a lower lever yet near the top and that he was ready and prepared to assume his new duty.
