I want to play for Cameroon - Medrano

The midfield dynamite has not ruled out the possibility of representing his country of birth, and believes that he has a role to play in Finke’s side despite fierce competition

Tamen Ngathie Medrano admits he harbours hopes of playing for Cameroonand will not give up on his dream of representing his fatherland, despite strong competition for places in Volker Finke’s side.

The 28-year-old midfielder has attracted the attention of many due to his impressive form for Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria Premier League since his move from Cameroonian side Tiko United in 2010.

He expressed his disappointment at his continual snub by national team selectors despite his brilliant outing in the Nigeria topflight where he was named the best foreign player in 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons while insisting that he would not give up till his dream is achieved.

“I feel very bad not being invited to the national team because I think I have proved myself over the years especially in the Caf Champions League,” Medrano told Goal.

“Some of my colleagues who ply their trades for other clubs especially in north Africa, some of which I played against on the continent have been handed national team invite.

“That is football anyway and I will keep working hard and wait for my time. Giving up is not an option now because I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am ready to take my chances when the chance comes.”

Though he is looking to his future prospects, the playmaker feels the rebranding process in the senior national team is an opportunity for him to be handed an invite to the Indomitable Lions squad.

“We are rebranding after some bad outings at the Fifa World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations. The team is in construction and I think it will be a great opportunity for me to be handed a call up. I believe I have what it takes to make my impact felt in the midfield.

“For the Cameroon Football Federation, I want them to know there is a certain Tamen Medrano doing well in the Nigeria Premier League and still hoping to get a national team call up,” he concluded.

Cameroon failed to make it past the group stage of the 2015Africa Cup of Nations staged in Equatorial Guinea having finished at the base of Group D with two points.
