The brilliant performance already staged by the new generation squad of the Cameroon’s Football team in the ongoing 2015 AFCON qualifiers has rekindled joy in the hearts of fans who have since the 2010 world cup expressed dissatisfaction with the team and its authorities.
The situation further aggravated after the disgraceful 2014 outing of the Lions in Brazil leading to an intensive in-house cleaning and the birth of the youthful and energetic 24-man squad headed by Volke Finke.
The results of the ongoing reconstruction in the team has brought the Lions at the top of group D with a total of 13 points in five matches so far in the present AFCON qualifiers.
In these five matches, the lions have already recorded four victories and one draw, scoring nine goals and conceding just one in the process.
The successful story of the Lions began with the 2-0 victory over the Leopards of the DRC in their backyard in Lubumbashi on 6th September 2014. This good form was further maintained in their 4 – 1 thrashing over the Elephants of Ivory Coast at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
An indifferent situation was experienced when the Lions recorded a goalless outing with the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone. The Lions however bounced back in the return leg beating the Leone Stars in a 2-0 win, bringing the Lions to 10 points.
In the day 5 match with the Leopards of the DRC, the Lions needed just a point to qualify but at the end of the day, a victory was recorded bringing them to 13 points, nine goals and the leader of group D.
Day 6 matches which will take place Wednesday 19th November 2014 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. It is worth noting that 23 players from the Lions’ squad have already answered present in Abidjan against the match except for the second Vice Captain Choupo Moting who has an injury.
The Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire will qualify only if they defeat the Lions or at least record a draw today.
