Cameroon football fans are showing little excitement over the African Cup of Nation due to kick off in neighboring Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.Unlike what used to be noted in the previous tournaments, people have not flocked to shops to buy the Indomitable Lions’ jersey or the national colors of Cameroon.
Earlier Friday, vendors at the shopping center of the district Akwa shared their disappointment over the lack of interest the Lions’ fans have shown for the gadgets.
We don’t know what is going on as only few hours left before the competition kicks off, buyers are seldom seen. It may be due to the fact Cameroonians do not have confidence in their team anymore or the team has no star no more, a gadget seller said.
Maybe a win of the Lions over Mali in the group game will arouse more interests, another seller hopes.
One jersey of the Lions is sold on average CFAF3 000 (about $6) while the banner or other armband are sold between CFAF 1,000 and 500.
