Legend Milla gives Chan the thumbs up

African football legend Cameroonian Roger Milla has heaped praise on the ongoing African Nations Championship saying the standards and level of football had gone up since the last edition hosted by South Africa in 2014.

Speaking to Supersport.com at Huye in Butare the Legend spoke highly of the organisers describing Rwanda as having done an exemplary job to organise the tournament as he praised the infrastructure as the group stages came to an end.

"I am really delighted at the level of organisation and the high standards of football at CHAN 2016 as they have improved tremendously since the last edition in 2014.Teams have been in high spirits and we have seen beautiful football being played with urgency making the tournament more interesting and unpredictable."

"The level of attendance has also been very encouraging as most matches have seen fully packed stadiums and that is why football becomes even better and more enjoyable," Milla told supersport.com.

Prodded to give his sentiments on his thoughts about the tournament vis a vis the main African Cup of Nations(Afcon), Milla was very positive and optimistic.

"When CAF started the tournament not everybody embraced it but now it's grown in stature and you will accept that the interest from all the competing countries is a notch higher together with many clubs and scouts coming in search of new players its amazing place for the locally based players to showcase their skills"

On who he thought would win the competition Milla was lost for words as he said with the level of competition seen in the 2016 tournament it would be difficult to predict the winner.

Milla's first WC goal in 1990 and subsequent celebration gave Africans much to cheer about.

"It will be tough to predict the winner because we clearly saw how the level of competition was high in the group stages.Tough teams like Morocco and Nigeria were eliminated and now we have seen the likes of Rwanda, DR Congo, Cameroon and even Tunisia playing brilliant football we will have to wait and see how it goes after the quarter-finals," Milla concluded.

The former Cameroon striker was one of the first African players to be a major star on the international stage after playing in three World Cups. He scored four goals at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and helped Cameroon to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
